LAURIANN GIBSON
Dance Visionary — From Lady Gaga to Hulu, Always Ahead of the Moment
Lauriann "BOOMKACK" Gibson is one of the most recognizable and influential choreographers of the last three decades — a visionary who has shaped the visual language of some of the biggest artists on earth while simultaneously building a broader platform to inspire the next generation. Born in Toronto and trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Gibson's career spans Lady Gaga's Monster Ball, Beyoncé's world tours, Nicki Minaj's performance empire, and now her own multimedia storytelling ventures.
Gibson rose to national prominence in 2005 as the on-air choreographer for MTV's Making the Band, where her signature phrases — "Little Muffins" and "Boom Kack" — became part of pop culture vocabulary. From there, she became the founding choreographer and creative director of the Haus of Gaga, co-architecting Lady Gaga's entire visual and performance identity through the Fame Monster era. Her direction of the HBO concert special Lady Gaga Presents: The Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2011.
New Work — 2024–2025
In 2024, Gibson joined Hulu's Dress My Tour as a central figure — a reality series exploring the intersection of fashion design and tour production. The show reflects her longstanding belief that costume and choreography are inseparable elements of a great live performance. She also released a new motivational single, "It's Gon' Be a Good Day" (featuring Sha Sha Jones, July 14, 2024), extending the inspirational mission of her 2021 bestselling memoir Dance Your Dance: 8 Steps to Unleash Your Passion and Live Your Dream. Her streaming platform BOP — an all-dance content network — continues toward its launch, positioning Gibson at the intersection of dance, media, and creator empowerment.

Stage presence is something you're born with. It's the X factor. It's the one thing that separates people who get up there and do it — from those who were born to do it.

Advocacy & Empowerment
Gibson's memoir Dance Your Dance is widely regarded as one of the most honest accounts of what it takes to build a creative career from the ground up. It traces her journey from Toronto to the Alvin Ailey training floors, through the reality TV era, through the Lady Gaga split, and into the sustained practice of building something that lasts. Her ongoing advocacy for dancers — particularly young Black women — and her platform-building through BOP and the Dress My Tour series reflect a career increasingly defined by what she builds as much as who she choreographs.
